Storytelling and Branding: Mastery Reflections

3–4 minutes

Three Little Questions

The three little questions: Who are you? What do you do? Why does it matter?

Taking something that can have so many answers and pinpointing the clarity of the matter really requires much more research than you would think. Whether this is for a personal brand or a company you have to look inward at the research. Digging into Kelson I had to really narrow the questions down. In the end, it was clear the personal attributes that differentiate the brand are what answer this question. It`s important to have this sort of elevator pitch down pat because if you do not know this, how can your customer?

This can be useful to any business, personal brand, or company as it really sets the tone. It may also be good to ask why now?

Brand Voice: Personal Attributes

Humanizing the brand is important to being able to better analyize the tone and voice of the brand. Taking a look at Zendaya I put together a 20 image slide deck in less than 7 minutes of material after adding voiceover it went to over 14 minutes. I learned from this assignement how difficult it can be to compress a message in a short time span. Mrs. Diaz really helped me understand the importance of that in marketing. This is a lesson I will forever take with me: how to tell a message in a short amount of time effectively.

Brand Story

Starting to find the brands archetype we used a website called http://www.KayePutnam.com I found from the quiz my brand identified with royalty. Here is a brief look:

From this assignment I learned to really hone in on figuring out the feel for the brand. I tried to take this royal feel along with that of a sub-archetype, of an explorer, which I learned about from Mrs.Diaz, and tied that into my Brand Story Video:

Creating the brand story helped me find more of that emotional element of the brand.

Brand Strategy

Doing the brand strategy for Kelston Marketing really helped me see a perspective of every touchpoint the customer goes through. Looking into the logo, buisness card, socials, tagline, mission statement and more, it was eye opening to see how many aspects tie into the overall branding of a company.

What I can takeaway is the value branding carries to any company. Marketing and branding are completley different. Mastering both effectively is a key to success. I don`t plan to stop here either. I plan to keep researching and learning.

Here is everything from the Digital Storytelling and Branding course with Diane Diaz.

Then lastly because I found it fascinating I am backlinking Speaking Your Brand where Mrs. Diaz has done a lot of work. There is definitely a lot to learn from that website.
